Job 29:14 “I put on righteousness, and it clothed me; my justice was like a robe and a turban.” These were the words of Job in the Old Testament. The reason he was blessed, in his words, was because he served the poor, cared for the fatherless and loved the widow. This is the call of God on all men, those who follow him and those who don’t.
Today I was thinking about my life and how I can so easily forget the needs of the world and just live for myself. It is a trap that we all fall into. God has shown us what is good, and what he requires of us is to ‘do justice’ (Micah 6:8). What does that look like for you and me today? It means walking with eyes wide open. It means seeing the dude on the side of the road with the sign that say’s “any amount will help” and giving to him, even if he spends it on beer, God forbid. It means buying a cup of coffee for the person in line behind us, who knows what that act of selflessness could do for them, and honestly, we don’t need to know.
Today, let your life and mine be marked by selfless living. Serve someone today and watch your life be blessed.
