Last night our community had a gathering and talked about the importance of adoption. We read from Ephesians 1:4,5 which says “even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love he predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved.” What an amazing gift that has been given to us, adopted into the family of God. This happens without any striving or begging, it was just something God did and continues to do for each person who choses to put their faith and hope in Jesus.
According to SOS and World Orphans there are over 150 million orphans worldwide. Some of those children have lost both parents, some only 1 and some have their parents but have been thrown out into the streets and no longer wanted, loved or accepted. This my friends is a problem, one that we believe the Church of Jesus Christ can and should be involved in eradicating.
Child Welfare shows that there are 400,000 children living in the foster care system in the USA (most recent statistic from Sept. 2012) and of those, 100,000 are up for adoption. Realistically we can see this statistic eradicated in the USA, it just takes the church of Jesus Christ to say yes to adoption. It can be scary, it can be overwhelming, but as we read in the verses above it is the heartbeat of God.
Take some time today to pray about adoption and ask Jesus how you can be involved. I am linking a video below of a family who decided to say yes, and change the lives of many. Also, I am putting a link in for more information on how you can be involved.
