Today, February 25, thousands of people from around the world will wear a red X on their hands to show they are passionate and committed about seeing global slavery come to an end. Skeptics may see this a a small, trendy action that doesn’t to do anything towards ending the brutal act of slavery, but I would come back and say, what are you doing that’s working?
Today on Instagram, over 188,000 pictures have been uploaded of people with the red X on their bodies. Thats 188,000 people who yesterday may haven not given slavery a thought, but today it will be on the front of their minds until they go to sleep. This does something to you. It reminds you that something is wrong with the world and that you have the privilege, the responsibility and the obligation to do what you can to see the world become a better place.
Today, as you walk around with the red X, think about your part in ending slavery. Who made the coffee you are drinking, who made the clothing are you wearing, who made the chocolate you are eating, who forced the girl you are watching on your computer into the pornography industry? Your voice, your wallet and your actions can and will make an impact in ending global slavery. When you see that red X on your body today let it influence and change the decisions you make, for today and for the rest of your life.
The red X is also an easy way to talk to someone else about global slavery. There are approx. 27 million people enslaved today. When people ask about your red X, tell them that you are making a difference in ending slavery, and let them know how. So, as you upload your picture of a red X, also share the story of how you are making a difference today.
Today, you will participate in ending global slavery. “So you, by the help of your God, return, hold fast to love and justice, and wait continually for your God.” Hosea 12:6
