My name is Phil Cunningham, but you can just call me Philter. in 2004 I was asked to write a prayer focus on areas of injustice for a program I run in YWAM called Mission Adventures. I researched and wrote on things like human trafficking, poverty, the sex industry, hunger, gender injustice, etc. The more I looked around the more I saw just how screwed up the world was and how far off from completing the work of Jesus I was. I grew up thinking that to follow Jesus meant to pray, read the bible, go to church and invite others to come with me. I was now messed up forever.

After writing the prayer focus I realized that I had stepped into a world that I could not step out of. My next step after the prayer focus was to tell as many people as I could about how messed up the world is. I started talking about it to my friends, in church, at Bible studies and prayer meetings. Everywhere I went and everyone I met knew that I cared about these issues. After a while this step wasn’t enough, it was time to take another step.

4 years ago I felt that the next step was to speak on a school that YWAM runs called DTS (Discipleship Training School). This was not just a 30 minute talk, this was 11 hours of talking on injustice over the span of 5 day’s. I was terrified and thought “there is no way I can talk that long.” But, I knew it was the next step for me so I walked into it. Since then I have spoken three times in Winnipeg, Canada and twice in New Zealand..

The more I talked in these schools the more that I realized that there were more steps for me to take. How could I just go around talking about this stuff if I was not doing anything about it personally outside of making awareness of the issues? My thought, make a calendar/prayer action guide that will help connect people to other ministries and ways of fighting injustice. S0, 2 years ago I started thinking of creative ways and ideas to present these issues to people over a period of 30 day’s in ways that brought awareness coupled with prayer and action.

The result, the Steps Of Justice 30 day action guide and this web site. This site and the Steps Of Justice name and action guide was created and dreamed up by myself and my good friend Wayne Shauan. We have spent many, many hours, days, weeks and months working, skeeming, dreaming and seing something beautiful like this come together. I am excited to see and hear what the next steps are for us and also excited to see what they are for you who are currently reading. It’s all about the next step, what is yours?
